Climate Change

It is widely believed that burning fossil fuels is increasing the amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere and causing a greenhouse effect that may increase the average temperatures throughout the world. This phenomenon, called global warming, may result in climate change. Climate change may have tremendous political ramifications for Australia and indeed the entire world.

The Garnaut Climate Change Review was commissioned by Australia's State and Territory Governments on 30 April 2007. The recently elected Prime Minister of Australia has confirmed the participation of the Commonwealth Government in the Review. Professor Garnout presented an interim report on 21 February 2008.
