HS Chapman Society


The HS Chapman Society is a non-political watchdog of the integrity of our voting system. It has the following objectives:

  • To promote public understanding of the Australian electoral systems
  • To monitor the operation of the Australian electoral system and, if necessary, recommend changes to the law and practice of elections
  • To compare the Australian electoral systems with those of other democratic countries
  • To develop and promote the principles of fair elections applicable to the Australian electoral system
  • To identify the opportunity for, and occurrence of electoral fraud, malpractice and maladministration and to promote legislative and administrative solutions consistent with the principle of fair elections
  • To support the fundamental principle of the secret ballot, the integrity of the electoral roll and the public scrutiny of each stage of electoral process
  • To develop links with comparable non-government organisations whose objectives are compatible with those of the H.S. Chapman Society
