The Independent Candidate's Advisory Network was founded by Federal Independent MPs Peter Andren, Tony Windsor and Bob Katter to encourage independent candidates around Australia to take the giant step of running for state or federal parliament. ICAN advises people who want to stand to represent their community, but are concerned at how to go about it, how to organise a campaign, how to develop the necessary support base to mount that campaign against the might and money of the party machine
